More than they bargained for

After their wild adventure in Wakanda against the fake Black Panther, the X-Force is brought to their biggest mission yet. In Cambodia, a town is terrorized and destroyed by Nuklo who has the mind of a toddler but powers beyond compare. Nuklo wasn’t the fracture the Analog was sending them to, but it is somehow connected to Nuklo. Forge is set on possibly coming back to Nuklo after solving the original fracture, but Surge will hear nothing of it. She jumps out of the X-Jet after proclaiming that she will not allow what happened in Mykines to happen again. After she jumps out of the jet, Sage goes into detail about exactly how big a threat Nuklo is, which seems to change Forge’s mind. The X-Force will try to stop Nuklo.

I really enjoyed how hectic this installment of X-Force was. It felt like you couldn’t keep your eyes on all moving parts with how much action was happening. With all the action came emotion, particularly from Surge. It was interesting seeing someone defy Forge’s orders and stick up for what they believe to be the right thing, especially it being Surge. Her reaction to Forge not wanting to stop and help was very understandable given what she went through in X-Force #1. I also appreciate the deepcut of Nuklo. I thought it was a great antagonist for the X-Force and proves to be more than they bargained for.

The Art

The artwork in X-Force #3 continues to give all the X-Men vibes you could ask for. There were lots of fantastic details balanced against the abstract power sets perfectly in each panel. The juxtaposition of the dark colors with the bright details was pitch perfect for X-Force #3. This contrast of colors really showcased nicely in each panel of the X-Force members using their powers. Personally, I really loved seeing Askani’s powerset with the abstract flames coming from her.

Final Thoughts

I think this was a great bit of continuation with the promise of even more excitement in X-Force #4. So far, it’s been a fun ride, and I’m eagerly waiting to see more.

I give this an 8.7
