Just when you think Clawdeen and the rest of the Monster High crew couldn’t have more problems, something sinister is happening at the school. Oh and Fearleader tryouts as well. Monster High: New Scaremester #2 continues Clawdeen and the crew’s new scaremester at MH.
Writer Jacque Aye, Artist Caroline Shuda, Colorist Rebecca Natly, and Letter Kielamel Sibal have come together on IDW’s new Monster High comic, and New Scaremester #2 is an amazing follow-up to Issue #1.
(POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD)
The issue starts with Frankie and her dad, Dr. Frankenstein, conversing as she returns to her dorm room. And this is where you start wondering what sinister things could be happening at the school. Frankie says she noticed something different with the books in the library, but nothing else out of the ordinary.
But this is Cleo De Nile’s story this issue. Between her and Deuce Gorgon breaking up, and now Frankie, Clawdeen, and Draculaura not talking to Cleo anymore, she might not be getting on the Fearleading team. The only person now on Cleo’s side now is Ghoula Yelps. But we also see that because her sister finally graduated from MH, she doesn’t have to be in Nefera’s shadow on the Fearleading team.
But you see during tryouts that all of the girls are trying their best to make the squad. Cleo showed off that she still has it, even without her sister on the team. Clawdeen and Frankie do a fun routine together. And Draculaura even shows off her school spirit.
All of the girls make the team, and we see a moment between Frankie and Cleo. After that moment we see both Cleo and Ghoula in the library, and Cleo is a little emotional at this point. And that’s probably to do with the fact that the girls haven’t spoken for quite some time. But as CryptCrier says at the end of the issue “It’s lonely at the top.”
Final Score: 10
This is the perfect way to pick up from where Issue #1 left off. Seeing how much the girls’ dynamic has changed mixed with seeing them on the Fearleading squad was the right way to follow up last issue.
