Marvel 85th Anniversary Special by Marvel Comics

It’s Marvel’s 85th Anniversary. What started as Timely Comics in 1939, later changed to Atlas and then Marvel in 1961. What better way to honor this anniversary than a fun comic book collaboration celebrating different heroes from over the course of eight and a half decades.

The Story

This story kicks off in the 85th century with God’s perfect idiot, and everyone’s favorite runt: Deadpool and Wolverine. As they tour a museum full of artifacts that once belonged to their long lost friends and heroes, they’re also on a secret mission. Throughout this comic, we see Wolvie and Wade continue on their mission, while the museum tour guide tells them (and the audience) five different artifact stories.

Our first story involves Ms. Marvel balancing motherhood and saving the galaxy. We then see Nightcrawler, Shadowcat, and more, deal with a little multiverse drama. Then we see some Spider-Man personal drama before going old school to Hydra. The last story our tour guide wraps up with involves clones and the Contest of Champions hosted by Mojo Productions! All the while the tour guide gives fun facts on the origin of the artifacts connected to these stories. To make it a little extra fun, the fun facts are incredibly wrong, yet hilarious. It’ll make you question all the fun facts you’ve personally learned about common sayings from the past.

The Art

Throughout these six stories, the art varied as it took you on many different adventures through space and time. It was like reading different stories throughout the last 8 and a half decades. From a gritty and dark Hydra story filled with sadness and shadowing, to a beautiful modern scene of Ms. Marvel with Galactus. This 65 page story gives you the best of Marvel art through the decades.

MARVEL 85th Anniversary Special Rating 10/10

This comic was fun, adventurous, nostalgic, and hilarious. It is perfect for what it is: a celebration. Having two fan favorite heroes who happen to have regeneration powers still saving the day centuries into the future, was a marvelous way to combine a story from the future with stories from the past. We saw the past, present, and future of Marvel.

All the while, we kept going back to a grumpy Logan and a joke telling Deadpool head. If you’re looking for something fun and nostalgic with various different Marvel art styles to celebrate 85 years of being true believers, then head to your local comic shop and grab this comic. Happy Anniversary Marvel! Here’s to another 85 years of maximum effort bub!
