The Principles of Necromancy #4:

Disgraced and left to rot in a dungeon, Doctor Jakob Eyes screams for freedom as the King has tossed him to be forgotten. That is until the King finds use for our twisted doctor. Resigned to a servant, Jakob has one final plan to end death forever and perhaps bring about a new reign of medicine. The Principles of Necromancy #4 slashes its way to a bloody and shocking conclusion…

The Art:

Jay and Eamon saved their best for last in this issue. The art cranks the twisted and ghoulish up to an eleven as the colorful streams of velvet blood fill each page, leaving the reader squeamish as the pages turn. As the book’s climax reaches its high point, it hits the reader with perhaps the best one-shot panel in the entire series and perhaps in comics this year. A horrifying sequence where green and red clash as Eamon has Jakob, Eloise, and the King undergoing one final transformation left me breathless as I reached the panel. It’s a testament to how phenomenal Eamon and Jay are throughout this book. It should shock nobody if we see Eamon Winkle’s name appearing in bigger comics by year’s end.

The Writing:

Much like Doctor Eyes, this may be The Hivemind’s Opus as the story arc reaches a shocking and brutal finish. This issue is filled with betrayal and horror and shocks us at every page-turn. It is impressive as the issue wrapped up; I never once saw where the story was headed or how it finished. Reminiscing about how the Sith betray their masters, we see Eloise make a grand return and become the apprentice as Jakob outsmarts the entire council. For fans of horror and of shocking endings this story sticks the landing in a big bad way.

Overall:

The Principles of Necromancy #4 is a blood-soaked finale full of twists and gore. Horror fans will be raving about this comic for years to come, and it would not be surprising to find it a staple in the genre. This is how you do horror and horror with a twist. This may be the end for now, but we need the reign of Doctor Eyes, and we need it ASAP.

10/10 Cigars.
