MS MARVEL ANNUAL #1:
As we learn more about the stone bearers, who have bonded with the Infinity Stones, Ms. Marvel star and all-around rising star, Iman Vellani, enters the fray as co-writer on this thrilling annual.
In this issue, we dig into Ward aka Multitude, a young robot who has bonded with the Soul Stone. Meanwhile, Kamala and Nakia are enjoying ditch day in Atlantic City and let’s just say, hijinks ensue.
The Art:
Giada is the perfect artist for this young, vibrant storyline. While the teens are out riding coasters and having a blast, the action and excitement thrive with the colors and styling we see on the page.
Take a look at the facial expressions as well. You can see the ups, the downs and even the wheels turning in Kamala’s head as she’s planning her next move.
And when it comes to Multitude, the art is a perfect compliment to show this living being’s emotions, which is NOT easy.
I feel for those trying to convey feeling with the likes of Vision, Multitude and more.
The Writing:
it’s no secret Iman is a uber Marvel Comics and MCU fan. And it shows here. The young star and Sabir really pair well for this crucial issue in telling a coming of age tale.
Much like Kamala and her youthful vibrance and innocence, the same can be said for Multitude, who has a knack for messing things up in the moment, but later looks to make things right.
As he enters the fray and bonds with Kamala, it’s rather cute seeing this young robot learn the ropes.
There’s also so many touching moments as Kamala helps Multitude learn the ways of the world.
Overall: 8.5/10
Iman is not only a talented actress, you can really feel and see her smile and positivity shine through in this comic.
This is the kind of issue I hope my young son Luke reads one day and maybe the reason he becomes a fan of comics.
It’s an upbeat, positive issue that just warms your soul – your Soul Stone that is. See what I did there??
