Catch up with Blood Hunters #3 here! Enjoy!
The Darkness Felt Around the Cosmos
I have to say, I’m really enjoying the mini stories in Blood Hunters and seeing the Blood Hunt event from different perspectives. In Blood Hunters #4, we see the stories of Norrin Radd, Satana, and the continuation of Once More into the Darkness. In Light from Shadow, the blotting of the sun has gotten the attention of Norrin Radd, AKA Silver Surfer. Norrin sensed a disturbance on another planet and found a victim who’s trapped by the unraveling of the Darkforce Dimension. Of course, Norrin tries to help him which leads him to finding himself in the Darkforce Dimension. Once inside of the place that feeds off of darkness, Norrin realizes there isn’t only one victim, but many of them.
The Worst Guests
In Satana and the Blood Bar, we see Satana and her employees feeling the effects of the blotting of the sun when her club is being bombarded with vampires. Usually that wouldn’t be a problem but in her club, humans and creatures coexist peacefully. The vampires aren’t here to remain friendly as they’re out for blood with the Blood Hunt in full effect.
In It Together
Last but certainly not least, the conclusion of Once More into the Darkness, with Hallow’s Eve, Yelena Belova, Dagger, and Elsa Bloodstone. We get to see all four work together to take down a huge herd of vampires which was awesome to see. Additionally, we get to see Hallow’s Eve donning a very familiar mask, flexing her powers. That part had me very excited as I always think Hallow’s Eve is very underrated as a character.
The Art
The artwork in all three stories were sublime. Silver Surfer is always a feast for the eyes given how the character always looks impressive and this story was no exception. I love how his powers are drawn and colored in Light from Shadow. Additionally, I really enjoyed the cool toned look of the story with the purples and the blues. In Satana and the Blood Bar, it was the complete opposite with the warm toned colors, which fit the story and characters very well. I loved seeing Satana’s powers at work! She was drawn beautifully with a fiery energy.
In the conclusion of Once More into the Darkness, we got a beautiful look at Dagger and Elsa Bloodstone’s powers and it was fantastic. I’ve appreciated the artwork in each installment of this story, and it’s only gotten better each time.
The Writing
The writing in each part of Blood Hunters #4 was so different but pitch perfect for the characters in the story. Light from Shadow felt very authentic to Norrin Radd as he does what he can to help where he can. It was very compelling and left me wanting to see more of Norrin and the Blood Hunt.
Satana and the Blood Bar was a fun read about a business owner having to work around the Blood Hunt, and the business owner just so happens to be a succubus with magical powers. Once More into the Darkness was the conclusion but still left you wanting more. I was ecstatic the words “just the beginning” were written at the end of the story. I can’t wait to see Elsa, Hallow’s Eve, Dagger, and Yelena working together against the Blood Hunt.
I’ll give this a 8.5 out of 10
