WOW! Can you believe that first issue of Scarlett?! The team over at Skybound/Image isn’t messing around and keeps going at a breakneck pace, and that’s NOT a problem!

Prisoner, Agent, Deep Cover, Best Friend, Redhead with a Mission!

Scarlett is working going undercover to find her lost friend and compatriot. Breaking out of her constraints, she goes to town on the lower members of the clan. Storm Shadow calmly tells all parties to stop and offers hospitality to Shana with a nice cup of tea. With Hard Master joining shortly after.

Hard master is exactly that Hard! While Scarlett has the brains and the skill set, Hard Master questions her dedication. Scarlett is headstrong and gambles her life on every mission. These are qualities that don’t align with the Clan. So the Hard Master tasks her to infiltrate a secure location to retrieve a sword, an heirloom that SHOULD be in the Arashikage Clan. Once she jumps into the fray……. You’ll have to wait for the next issue.

Thoughts from THE PIT

THIS BOOK HITS on two fronts! While we are watching the action and back and forth on the page. Scarlett is monologing her thoughts, giving so much more insight into the story and where the character is in her head.

Little things in this book speak volumes!! When Storm Shadow offers her tea, there is a cup. Broken but more beautiful than its original form. It’s the Japanese form of Kintsugi. The idea of using such symbolism as Scarlett is trying to pick up her own life’s pieces and evolve into the next iteration of herself is powerful!

The art of combat and action is heightened by the masterful work of the art team. Not a single kick, slash, kick, or crash isn’t felt! Let’s not forget her all-white outfit. Does that mean we should call her Storm Scarlett?!

Scarlett #2 gets a solid 9 out of 10 YOOOOOO JOES!

Damn, near perfect, the cliffhanger just killed it for me, in a good way!! I’m not so patiently waiting for the next issue! Kelly Thompson and the rest of the team bring such an action-packed female lead book that makes you realize how many facets a soldier has to face. Moreover, adding to the hurdles of being a woman trying to find herself speaks volumes.
