The last adorable little lamb in all the land faces execution to prevent a prophecy that would end everything…maybe? The lamb is granted a chance at revenge by a dark power and what follows the cutest and bloodiest path of violence and horror that you could ever imagine! With a little push and a whole lot of mayhem, the Cult of The Lamb begins to form!

Cult of the Lamb: Video Game to Comic Book

Cult of the Lamb is a comic that follows the story of the video game of the same name. Both of these open with a little lamb being escorted to a sacrificial ceremony. 4 Bishops who rule the land claim that with the death of this last lamb, the prophesy of the heretic’s return will be prevented and their “Old Ways” can continue.

***MINOR SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN’T PLAYED THE GAME***

If you’ve played the game there’s nothing to spoil here, but the Lamb is executed and sent to another dimension where the being they fear is imprisoned. That entity grants its dark power to the Lamb so that it may return to the leaving world, seek its vengeance, and start a cult in the name of the One Who Waits. What proceeds is the cutest trail of blood and violence. The Lamb is ruthless and bloodthirsty for revenge!

On this path of destruction, the Lamb is reminded of its promise to start a cult by a former vessel for the dark power. It’s unclear as to who is friend and who is foe as the journey will definitely ebb and flow with fun action, in depth character interaction, and ruthless betrayal!

Cult of the Lamb Becomes Something More

Alex Pakdnael pens the story that closely follows the beginning of the video game, at least plot wise. I don’t know a ton about the game (never played, but did check out the plot) but it seems as though Paknadel brings more depth to these characters and the world around them. The Lamb itself has a little more nuance as does the One Who Waits. Even the evil servants or henchmen get some flavorful dialogue that adds a little comedic relief.

More Cute Comic Book Mayhem!

A couple of scenes that really show that there will be some some meat to this book are the ones involving Ratau and the cute little bunny that is the first official member of the Lambs cult. There’s some character building in their dialogue that makes the story feel deeper and builds strong bonds, as well as the beginnings of conflict.

Cult of the Lamb Offers Blood and Bodies

The artwork of Cult of The Lamb makes the book feel unique. It is closely designed after the video game, but it’s the cute cartoon characters thrown on the backdrop of a dark, desolate, unforgiving world that bring an engaging contrast to the story.

Little and Filardi bring the severed limbs and buckets of blood to every panel, entrenching the world in a horror theme just to add another layer to the world. It’s a ton on fun to watch the Lamb fight ruthlessly against the powers that be. It spends a good portion of this issue splattered with blood and I love it. These character types aren’t synonymous with this type of world and the contrasting genres make everything that much more fun to read and look at.

Everything Points to 9/10

Issue one was a great intro to this world and beginning to this story. I’m loving the brutality and horror medium involving the cutest of cartoon creatures. The Lamb is a great protagonist that was fleshed out and given personality and drive. There was more to it than just being a killing machine granted power by an evil power. The cast of surrounding characters were also fantastic and just fun to read. I’m excited for the next issue!
