The Armory Wars:
The Crowing is dead, and Lord Ryan seemingly reigns supreme over the rebel cause. Meanwhile, Claudio is mourning the loss of Ambellina as he and Chase ponder what move to make next. However, they may not have much time to move as outside forces are swooping in hot on their trail.
The Art:
I love a good science fiction tale because it allows artists to think outside the box and get extra creative within their works. This comic is no exception, as Martinez and Bianconi get to play around with various colorful creatures and textures of different venues that are appealing to the reader’s eyes. The various costumes at play offer a wide array of unique diversity and we even get a ghoulish hunter that takes our breath away when he makes his appearance.
The duo also nail down the textures of various beings and details within the faces and other parts that showcase their talent on display. Overall, it’s a visually pleasing issue bringing us once more into this wonderful world at play.
The Writing:
This issue sets us up with a shroud of mystique as we have multiple important deaths within the first issue, all of which mean something different to our characters. Claudio and Chondra immerse us into this world through their excellent storytelling, setting the stage for this arc and leaving us on the edge of our seats on the final panel. Esposito compliments the writing through the lettering style allowing us to visualize the accents being spoken and enhancing the art.
Overall:
This is a great issue that sets up our arc and allows us to once again play in a fun galaxy. Boom! Studios has continuously proven themselves a mainstay in the industry and The Armory Wars further proves why!
