The Story:
Tony Stark is stuck inside a giant armor with no power, pursued by a deadly enemy and with the clock ticking he must sort through the ghosts of his past in order to finish the fight.
The Writing:
Gerry Duggan brings in a solid feeling of dread and horror throughout this issue. The strange, dreamlike, state that Tony finds himself in is well executed, in that I felt his confusion while I was reading along. The distorted trip down memory lane was creepy and fun and it felt like a payoff as a long time fan of the character. On top of the horror elements, this issue had an exciting twist and a final page that teases the next issue and put my enjoyment of this comic over the top!
The Art:
Guest artist Patch Zircher was a welcome addition to this comic run. I have been a fan of his work since I first encountered it in the pages of Iron Man: Execute Program. He did not disappoint here and his art style blended well with the colors and designs of this run overall. Cover Artist Kael Ngu continues to delight with dynamic covers that are true works of art.
The Verdict: 9/10
This story continues to take it’s time to unfold. At no point has this creative team rushed or allowed the momentum stall, leading to a series of books that are put on the top of my pull list each month. Fantastic writing, a great guest artist, and a cliffhanger ending put this in the “Must Read” category!
