Wolverine by Marvel Comics

This run of Wolverine has been going on for a few years now, however, the Sabretooth War has only just begun, and this issue kicks off part 5. While I recommend reading all 45 issues and beyond, this is the perfect time to jump in.

Issue 41 started a whole new story featuring Logan’s most annoying enemy: Victor Creed AKA Sabretooth. As the Sabretooth War continues, Logan has already lost so many, including his son, Akihiro.

In the last issue they catch one of the many “Sabreteeth” from another multiverse, and learn a bit about what Sabretooth is planning. Issue 44 ends with Logan taking off on his own, determined to end this, and not let anyone else die.

No team, no plan, just his heightened senses, some feral energy, and the need for vengeance.

The Story for Issue 45

This issue kicks off with Sabretooth returning to Krakoa, surrounded by Stark Sentinels. While Krakoa is a former sanctuary to many mutants, for Sabretooth he only sees a prison. Along with the literal head of Quentin Quire, Sabretooth is on a mission, and no one knows exactly what he’s up to.

The Sabreteeth and the Exiles are all none too pleased with him. While the head of Quentin is forced to aid Sabretooth is his ridiculous mission to kill everyone Logan loves, he sees there is more than hate to Sabretooth’s mission. As Wolverine arrives at Krakoa ready to go full berserker rage, something else entirely happens.

The Art

This run continues to be both beautiful and graphic. Emotions are high all around, and each character shows that so clearly.

Whether they’re simply standing or fighting, the expressions are detailed and perfect, so as to portray the level of tension building in that moment.

In addition to emotions, every Wolverine comic needs a scene of pure Wolvie energy, and this comic did not disappoint.

Wolverine #45 Rating:  9/10

While a lot of stories (in addition to this current Wolverine run) have led up to this Sabretooth War, there is never a moment of confusion, unless that’s the intention.

The audience is regularly caught up, and reminded of past events, all while moving the story forward and keeping the energy and tension high. This issue in particular, did a fantastic job of weaving all these stories together, and then leaving us with a shocking moment at the very end.

All in all, I’m continuing to love this Wolverine run, and I can’t get enough of Sabretooth V. Wolverine!
