Ok, it’s been a month, and obviously, between #116 and PR Unlimited: The Morphin Masters, we all know that Lord Drakkon is DEAD! This issue jumps right into everything ELSE going on in the universe. Because we can’t get bogged down, we gotta get going after this, and only five issues remain.

The Infection Is Spreading!

We start this issue right off with Aquitar being under siege by Dark Spector and his lackeys. As they Morph, they too are infected. Dark Spector then uses the gird to travel to Corinth and acquire the RPM Rangers. Knowing that once he is in proximity and the ranger morphs, his influence on the grid instantly pulls them to his side. So, he’s just galavanting through the universes to add more Rangers to his side, including the Psyco Rangers. Knowing they are wild cards, he decides to send them to Earth ahead of schedule, BUT CAN’T!

Take Two of these and Morph in the Mornin’

It takes the combined power of the two big brains of Dr Morgan and Billy to cracka few eggs. We finally find out that the Power Eggs are crystalized Morphin Grid! So what do you do with eggs? You make a huge force field around Earth essentially using The Grid to go “Off The Grid”. Now, any rangers on Earth can morph free, worry-free.

Zordon, too, doubles down and asks the Hyperforce team to start blasting through space and time to get as many Rangers as possible, and once again, we are getting big-time shattered grid vibes with the hodgepodge of Rangers coming to Earth.

A Vile Betrayal

Dark Spector is growing in power constantly. Mistress Vile is getting tired of being overlooked and humiliated by her master. Alpha-Xi loyally reminds her that their time will come. But that comes all too late, Dark Spector is furious that Vile can’t break through the barrier that surrounds Earth and “Motivates” her by smashing Alpha-Xi.

What does any good bad gal do? She lets the White Ranger go! But not back to Zordon she has her own plans for her former Ranger.

“Arch” You Glad I’m Home?

After setting up the force field, Billy and the Phantom Ranger keep working on the Master Arch on Earth, hoping to get it back up and running. Phantom Ranger regrets how his experiment all these years ago has put us all at risk now. When the grid sparks open and out comes The Ranger Slayer, the incorruptible Ranger.

Thoughts from the Grid

This issue was all over the place! For once, that’s not a bad thing! Knowing the expediency of each faction trying to bring Rangers to their side, the bouncing around was perfect. Getting to see Rangers who obviously in the show wouldn’t show up for almost a decade or more after MMPR is always going to lead to the fan base going to the extremes of “what ifs”

There was a small plot point in this book that I hope wasn’t just a blip with Taylor and Jason training a small police force to help on Earth using Promethean Tech. I’m not sure where it’s going or, to be honest, if it’s necessary unless Melissa is going to bring back Jason somehow in spandex.

I think we are finally at the top of the rollercoaster hill, or at least 80% there, and I’m waiting for the ball to drop. With everything going on, I’m hoping we aren’t getting three more issues of build-up and then have to cram all the fight, the ah-ha moment, win, and resolution into two issues. This arc has been massive and deserves the time to even out at the end.
