Avengers: Twilight #4
Creative Team:
Writer – Chip Zdarsky
Artist – Daniel Acuna
Letter – Joe Caramagna
Cover – Alex Ross
PUBLISHER: MARVEL ENTERTAINMENT
Read my review of the last issue in this series!
The Story:
With Thor and Ms. Marvel’s arrival Cap’s new Defenders finally get some, much needed, help! Secrets are revealed, truths are uncovered, and the true villian is ready to show his face. It’s time to find out if Captain America restore hope in heroes once again!
The Writing:
Boy, this story is heating up quick! With the arrival of Thor, Zdarsky has the chance to show some real emotion and pathos with the immortal god. He absolutely delivered!
Without spoiling the scene, there is a moment of humanity given to the God of Thunder that is masterfully written. On top of the wonderful team dynamics on display, Zdarsky ratchets up the tension as he drops more bread crumbs as to what exactly happened on “H-Day.”
This has been a great read so far and I am very intrigued to see what happens next.
The Art:
What can I say about the artwork in this book that I haven’t said before? It’s beautiful, plain and simple. One of my biggest complaints with artwork is the feeling of static images with no movement.
That is NOT an issue with Acuna’s work! Each panel and page turn has weight and motion, not to mention incredible cinematic flow. At no point do I feel like I am looking at individual pictures when I read this.
Instead, the art flows from page to page like a beautiful movie playing out in my hands. The new designs for Thor, Iron Man, and the villain (who I will not spoil) are fantastic and feel like they are both new and familiar at the same time.
Of course, once again, I have to praise the incredible cover by Alex Ross. He is and always will be one of the greatest cover artists of all time.
The Verdict: 9.5/10
Avengers: Twilight continues to be a must read, in my opinion. The pacing, the story, the art, the incredible covers, this story is what we need right now. This creative team is building toward something big. This book is a constant reminder why superhero stories will never go out of style, in a world full of fear, they will always give us hope.
