The Midnite Show – Dark Horse Comics

The first three issues of The Midnite Show have been non-stop monsters and fun. We’ve seen unique takes on our favorite classic monsters, while enjoying a fun action packed mystery story. From a monster horror film crashing through the movie screen in a Blazing Saddles style, to Van Helsing showing up to try and save the day. It’s been creepy, mysterious, and action packed. When we last saw our group of horror fans, and Van Helsing, they were face to face with Dracula. Now, in this final issue, they must stop Dracula from completing his spell and becoming the God of Monsters.

The Story for Issue 4

Issue 4 (the possible last issue) kicks off right where we left our heroes. Face to face with the most famous vampire of all: Dracula. Alongside Dracula we see Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Dweller, and The Wolf. This horror movie fan club of heroes has decided their strategy will be to let these monsters fight amongst themselves while they slip away and save the day. However, these are not your Grandma’s monsters, and we quickly learn this is not the best strategy.

My favorite monster spin has been Frankenstein. For years Frankenstein’s monster has been incorrectly referred to as ‘Frankenstein.’ Yet, in The Midnite Show, this would be correct because Dr. Frankenstein put his mind into his creation. Therefore, he now has strength and intelligence. A dangerous combination for any villain to have. As our group of misfit heroes attempts to escape, the world around them once again shifts into an actual monster movie scene. We then get a twist on a twist and a hell of an ending.

The Art

For old school classic monsters meeting the world we live in today, this art was nailed to perfection. It’s gory and detailed when it needs to be, but somehow still has a level of campiness that horror fans love. All four issues were consistently beautiful, gory, entertaining, and even comical at times.

The Midnite Show Issue 4 Rating: 9.5/10

I have enjoyed this comic from beginning to end, but that ending was absolute horror perfection. The actual villain was not only unexpected, but quite hilarious as well. If you love old school monsters, and comics, this is a must grab. Dusting off everyone’s favorite monsters, and adding some updated spins to them while placing them in the 21st century, where horror fans become potential victims, was as much fun as it sounds. The last line ended with “The End?” So here’s hoping we get more.
