The Plot:

Cap and his team of Commandos are ready to find out the truth behind his transformation and defeat the Nazis. Meanwhile, Ros has a plan in motion to trap Cap and tempt him to join her side. As a ferocious battle ensues the team may be getting help from an old friend soon..

The Art:

Carlos and Espen add such a visceral and raw element to this run. This issue in particular has felt as though you are reading a horror and suspense comic more than a superhero one which speaks volumes to their ability to create suspense through their art. The palette is dark yet flourishing with colors and there’s a battle scene in particular that they draw where Cap is taking on dozens of werewolves that brings about so much excitement.

The Writing:

Stephanie does a great job in this issue showing that Captain America at his core no matter what he turns into is still a beacon of hope and bravery. Despite not knowing if there’s a cure or what the situation is we see him diving into battle in a heroic way to take on an army of werewolves himself.

However, the standout in this issue for me has become Francine and Dugan. The two don’t trust one another and Dugan has emerged as a leader spearheading his way into battle and the dynamic between these two characters is so much fun.

They threaten to kill one another yet when the gauntlet is down accept blind trust in each others actions and there is a clear sign of respect. The way they’re written showcases her ability and understanding of the world she’s writing in and adds a special flavor we haven’t seen in a while.

Overall:

Capwolf is a thrilling and suspenseful addition into the lore of Captain America and the Howling Commandos. It adds a horror element that just fits nicely into a team that is willing to do anything and face anyone. It’s honestly a really refreshing take on Captain America and showcases how brutal he can be in combat . This run is emerging as a favorite story of mine and you really need to be reading this run.
