The Art:

Carlos and Espen do wondrous work showcasing the sheer size of and horror of a Captain America turned werewolf in this issue. The sheer panic and confusion bursts through the work they do conveying the fear on everyones’ faces and the bravery of Dugan. The way the duo bring to life the wolves in epic detail would make horror fans proud in this dark twist upon the American Boy Scout.

The Writing:

If there is one thing 2023 has taught us it’s that Stephanie Phillips is here to stay and make a case for writer of the year. She just understands the characters in a way that makes you proud and happy. Bringing the humanity to Cap despite the horror he has befallen and showing his classic Captain America bravery and heroism really shine through in issue #2. Another thing she hits is the horrifically scientific methods the Nazi’s were ready to use in order to win the war. Additionally, showing us that the team wasn’t fully aboard Captain America and showcasing that he had to earn their trust was a brilliant creative decision.

Overall Thoughts:

Marvel has another hit on their hands with Capwolf. From the team led by Phillips understanding that Captain America to his core will die fighting the forces of evil to the shining moment Dugan and the Commando’s truly buy into Cap as the leader they did not know they had. This series is shaping up to be loaded with intense action and suspenseful and horror filled moments. I never knew I needed to see Captain America as a werewolf do battle against a legion of Nazi werewolves but here I am. Every full moon make sure you grab your blanket, lock your doors, and grab Capwolf and the Howling Commandos.

5/5 Cigars.
