Hal Jordan is a former fighter pilot who became the hero known as Green Lantern after being chosen by the Green Lantern Ring itself. As part of the Galaxy’s top security force, he has naturally accumulated his fair share of enemies since his first appearance.

Although technically his first villain was Dr. Parris, Hal’s first super-powered foe was actually someone else. His first true threat was a being known as the Invincible Destroyer, accidentally created from the mind of a man named Dr. Phillips. The Destroyer was Hal’s first big test in DC Showcase 23 back in 1959.
After escaping the mind of Dr. Phillips, the Destroyer set out to drop an atomic bomb on Coast City. However, after containing the blast, Hal managed to turn one of the Destroyer’s own attacks back on himself, which led to the destruction of the so-called Invincible Destroyer.
