The Story

This review is brought to you by Nerd Initiative’s Megan and Matt!!

Matt – I feel as though with each issue Pornsak keeps seeing how far he can push this story to the line without being told no and he has yet to find that line. Which is amazing because this issue is front to back incredible in terms of action while weaving hints and nods within the lines. We get a hint at Dinah possibly having her ability already which is the first time this has been mentioned! At no point did this issue feel too overstuffed for me either as more answers came to light. However, the end of this issue left my jaw on the floor and while I think I know what’s next it really proves I really don’t and I am along for this roller-coaster with my hands up high screaming for joy.

Megan – If there’s one thing Absolute Green Arrow is going to do, it’s keep you on your toes. The fifth issue is jam-packed with action, emotions, and a whole bunch of secrets. Dinah and the Green Arrow Killer, who goes by the Weapon, are being held hostage by Hector Hammond and they’re about to get an up close view at exactly what horrors he’s been spending his time on. This issue does a great job at shedding some light on my questions I’ve had, but there’s still so much mystery to uncover.

Pornsak Pichetshote is a master at fitting so much into one issue and Absolute Green Arrow #5 is proof of that. Every page tells its own story and it’s all written with an incredible flow. As always, I’ll be waiting anxiously for the next issue to drop.

The Art

Matt – Marcelo’s colors are thriving with every panel in this issue! There so much vivid imagery at play it will pull the reader in big time. The way Marcelo plays off Rafaels artwork shows how well these two work together. There are body parts flying and punches thrown all around with emotions high and Rafael captures it all in glorious detail. I love the way they portray the flashback sequences with a lighter tone overall. Every issue the art stands out and matches the intensity that’s being brought and I am so here for it.

Megan – The artwork matches the energy of the comic extremely well as it captures the chaos of the story and the chaos of the Absolute Universe. The action was illustrated excellently, putting the character’s fighting skills on full display. Some of the characters were drawn to be terrifying and I’d say that goal was met in the best way. What I really appreciate were the facial expressions of the characters. The pure emotion of the character shined brightly, especially on Dinah, which practically told the story itself. For such a dark issue, the vibrancy that was used was beautiful. I loved the juxtapositions of the darker tones and the bold and striking colors, which made each page its own masterpiece. Once again, the artists showed up and showed out, leaving us with an absolutely gorgeous comic.

Final Thoughts

Matt -9/10! You know how when you go to a Hibachi restaurant and all of these ingredients are laid out and you’re like how will this all come together and taste good all the while the chef is throwing sake down your throat and lighting everything on fire? That’s how Absolute Green Arrow #5 is and I am eating every page of it up! I truly have no idea what direction they are taking us and that’s the beauty of it.

Megan – 8.5/10. Absolute Green Arrow #5 has so much to unpack, and every bit of it is extremely compelling. An excellent job done by the creative team!

Overall Grade -8.75/10
