BLEEDING HEARTS #6: The Bond of Brotherhood

Published:

Outbreak Day is in full swing! Mush and Poke have joined in on the festivities while Rabbit and Ruby are running for their lives. Things come to a head as Poke can’t bring himself to eat any live ones leaving Mush to make a decision on their brotherhood.

Creative Team: Deniz Camp, Stipan Morian, Matt Hollingsworth, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou.

The Story:

Deniz very expertly ramps up the intensity in this issue as we’ve been seeing viewpoints from every side and now it is time to make a choice. This issue shows what is going on with Poke and it leads to a confrontation with him and Mush which Deniz does a beautiful job of showing how heartbreaking it is. Hassan’s lettering pulls the emotion out as Poke is mad and confused as to why he is how he is now and the ferocity behind Mush. There are still some tricks to be shown because a surprise return is made and honestly I did not think I would ever be happy to see this character show up! This is an issue which is every ounce of emotional as the rest and at points stressful through sacrifice.

The Art:

What really stands out to me in this issue is how Stipan has lured us into this weird false comfort with Mush. To see his calm and soft demeanor turn terrifying is so well done. The way the anger shows and Mush bears his teeth and seems to grow in size. Mixed with Hollingsworth’s ability to shade Mush a touch darker with a hint of red brings out the fear from the panels. The art is grungy and gritty and I love the action and how they do not hold back when it’s time to show some blood on the pages.

Final Thoughts:

Bleeding Hearts #6 is equal parts terrifying and emotional. Poke is forced to make decisions and more is revealed as to what is happening with him. This issue ramps up the intensity and is fast paced taking us into unknown territories.

Overall Grade: 10/10
