*SPOILERS AHEAD*
The Rundown:
We’ve got Florida, hippos, manic law enforcement, and an overweight drug lord packed into one crazy issue. Kennedy takes us on a trip from the start, making me feel almost like I was back in 6th grade during D.A.R.E. with the old lady telling us why drugs are bad as she beats on the old television set to work. It almost felt as though every character was on cocaine. Which is hilarious and makes this story work so well. The story itself is tongue-in-cheek as well as full of surprises, and Kennedy’s plot will have the readers laughing the entire book.
Clark is doing the art, cover, and letters, which aid in making this feel as though we are on a trippy journey into a 70’s action spoof. The overzealous hairstyles and acrobatics lend to the laughter as we move from panel to panel, continuously asking ourselves what in the heck we are reading.
Final Thoughts:
The Florida Hippopotamus Cocaine Massacre #1 is a wild adventure from start to finish that will leave you laughing and needing more. It’s everything I wanted in a comic, and we are even left off with a cliffhanger teasing the next issue, which I need ASAP. Check this book out, you will not be disappointed!
Overall Grade 9/10
