Marvel Rivals: Timestream Adventure – Let The Entanglement Begin

Published:

The folks over at Marvel Multiverse RPG were kind enough to provide Nerd Initiative with an advanced copy of their newest adventure, Marvel Rivals: Timestream Adventure. Join me, and let’s jump right in and take a look at what’s coming soon to Marvel Multiverse RPG.

Overview

Marvel Rivals: Timestream Adventure is a new one-shot adventure for Marvel Multiverse RPG crafted by the writing team of Paul Allor and Marty Forebeck. Marty has partnered with his father, Matt Forbeck, on many of the Marvel Multiverse expansions, and Paul Allor is currently writing the Marvel Rivals Comic series for Marvel Comics, some of which are exclusive to Marvel Unlimited and some of which can be picked up at your friendly local comic shop.

The one-shot opens with a ten-page comic written by Allor and beautifully illustrated by Ig Guara. The adventure itself serves as a prologue for the wildly popular Marvel Rivals video game. Forbeck and Allor worked together to craft the adventure, with Brian Patterson serving as cartographer.

The Comic

As mentioned, the adventure opens with a comic from the creative team of Paul Allor and Ig Guara. The comic features some fan favorite characters from Marvel Rivals as the creative team provides readers with some background on how characters from various multiverses came together.

If you’ve enjoyed the work that Paul Allor has put into the various Marvel Rivals comics they’ve published, you’ll enjoy this treat of a comic as well. Allor really makes the comic feel like a well-thought-out contribution to the story and the adventure rather than just something that was added in to say “hey, this adventure has a comic”. The characters feel equal parts their traditional Marvel selves and their Marvel Rivals counterparts.

The Adventure

As narrators move past the comic, they head into a carefully crafted adventure with Marty Forebeck joining Paul Allor in crafting the tale. The adventure is set in the sprawling facility of the Collector. Players who are fans of Marvel in general are likely familiar with the Collector from his appearances in Guardians of the Galaxy and Infinity War.

Heroes start having been recently escaped (if they choose to play as a character found in the prologue comic) or being sprung from their cell (if they chose to play as another character.

The adventure comes with 14 prebuilt character sheets inspired by their Marvel Rivals counterparts, including fan favorites such as Jeff the Shark and Squirrel Girl. In addition to prebuilt characters, the adventure features seven chapters that the narrator (Marvel Multiverse version of a game master or dungeon master) can guide players through.

What’s Included

In addition to the earlier-mentioned chapters, prebuilt characters, and comic, Marvel Rivals: Timestream Adventure comes with some other neat features. The first feature found in the book is the “Marvel Lore” section. The Lore section allows fans looking for a fun introduction to Marvel Multiverse RPG without jumping straight into purchasing the Starter Set to get their feet wet, even if they aren’t familiar with Marvel Rivals. The section outlines what Marvel Rivals is, what has happened up to this point, how the time entanglement happened, and some of the chronoverse characters that may need to know, like Tokyo 2099.

On top of the lore, Allor and Forbeck include potential team-ups for players and the Narrator throughout the lore section, highlighting teams like The Spider-Verse and Marvel Knights teams. These teams can come in handy if a player comes into the game who wants to play a specific character not featured in the Marvel Rivals video game yet or would rather play the Marvel 616 universe version of that character.

In my opinion, the most unique inclusion in this one-shot is the game modes based on the Marvel Rivals game styles. Inspired by Convoy, Convergence, and Domination modes in Marvel Rivals, these modes serve as an add-on to the main adventure, allowing a player versus player component or even a player versus narrator battle that allows for a more player-to-player competition dynamic than traditional RPGs.

To help narrators run the adventure, the one-shot includes three maps (two area-specific maps and a battle map), with the battle map able to function for the aforementioned Marvel Rivals-inspired battles.

Bringing the Timestream Together

Ultimately, this promises to be a really exciting one-shot addition to the Marvel Multiverse RPG game. Allor and Forebeck have built an adventure that appeals to a lot of different segments of Marvel fans. If you love the Marvel Rivals video game, this adventure is for you. Fan of Marvel Comics? You’ll enjoy this adventure and get another comic to add to your game. Picking it up to add to your growing Marvel Multiverse RPG collection? You’ll get some good maps and a really well-written adventure.

Overall, I really loved reading through this one-shot. I can’t wait to get in on the table with my normal Marvel Multiverse RPG group and play through it.

Marvel Rivals: Timestream Adventure is available on March 17th, 2026 online or at your friendly local game store.
