AQUAMAN #14: The Fall of Atlantis

Published:

Lolanna has returned to finish the rebellion she had once started years ago in Atlantis. She has harnessed new abilities and, with the help of Dagon, has laid a trap for Aquaman and the rest of Atlantis. Now their only hope to prevent the fall of Atlantis lies with Mera, who must take on her own mother if she wishes to save the life she has built with Arthur.

There is a lot of clever callbacks and storytelling in this issue from Jeremy Adams as he ties in the first arc with a clever new take on Mera and her family. Arthur has been out of the tournament for a little while, which has allowed for these side characters to be fleshed out and given time to shine, which is another underrated aspect in this run. Lolanna is a powerful antagonist who now harnesses Omega level, and to see Arthur, who was so powerful and confident with his newfound abilities, be reduced to a puddle was shocking in every way. Adams is keeping us hooked with every issue.

I’m continuing to love the depth of details Rex and Daniel are delivering with every panel. When it comes to full-page sequences, the art delivers the mouth-opening reactions they set out to achieve. There are powerful moments within these panels where every drop of water is detailed and showcased. The coloring is vibrant and powerful as well. Seeing the way Arthur is reduced to a puddle of water was imagery that leaves a lasting impression on the reader as this issue wraps up.

Aquaman #14 is powerful and symbolic. Jeremy introduces the next big villain in a shocking way as the art team matches intensity through detail and coloring. There is so much to be excited for as this run hasn’t skipped a beat with Darkseids tournament.
