Trapped in Limbo with a murderer in Do Not Disturb #1 by Jarod Hunter Roe, David Flores, Lorenzo Scaramella & Letter Squids from Invader Comics

SOLICITATION:
“DO NOT DISTURB” is a mystery/thriller with a great supernatural twist. Set within an infamous hotel called The Argyle. The story follows private investigator Randall Halsey who has been hired to find a missing young woman, only to realize she (and him) have been murdered. Not letting death stand in the way of solving the mystery, Randall has to maneuver through both the human and supernatural worlds that lay within the walls of The Argyle, traveling through time itself to set things right.” – From Invader Comics
*SPOILERS FOR ISSUE #1*
Without a doubt, there’s an intriguing crime fiction plot at play. Besides that, there’s a particular angle to this story. P.I. Randall Halsey gets to be a fly on the wall and listen to what people have to say about him. Even though it is mostly the negative remarks. Halsey decides to solve this murder crime out of spite. Perhaps it was too late to care about his reputation. However, it was not too late to bring justice to the young woman he was hired to find.
HOW ABOUT THE ART?
First, I would like to congratulate David Flores for his excellent pencils. This was a showcase of a variety of storytelling techniques like extensive linework, bold outlines and forced perspective. Moreover, the panel structure gave an easy flow to the pages. Also, Lorenzo Scaramella’s coloring set the tone and style of this world. With a retro color palette and contrasting colors between characters and the background scenes. Finally, the design, color and positioning of the narration boxes was great as well.
OVERALL GRADE: 10/10
FINAL THOUGHTS
If you’re looking for a pulp-fiction, crime-thriller comic book series look no further than Do Not Disturb #1 from Invader Comics. Here’s the story of a murder crime that transcends time and planes of existence. With good use of the plot to pick and choose where to do exposition. Besides the murder mystery and the limbo ghost hotel, there’s a contemplation of mortality, after death. A private investigator with a chip on his shoulder, something to prove to himself. Even after death. Literally a story with so much to say.
