“Three-In-One”

Logan: Black, White & Blood is a debut series containing three short stories within this first issue! All three capture the true essence of Wolverine. With one alteration, the art is black, white and red. I absolutely love that Marvel is doing this line of three-color themed books. It is stunning to see the basic black and white with coordinated uses of red.

“Arms Race”

This story starts off with Logan in 1951, unraveled in a war that no one wants to fight. Logan is surrounded by absolute carnage, all of which are his men in his unit. Now there is revenge to be had. It is at this point that we see Logan become the animal that he is. But he discovers something interesting in the process. And I’m certain that what Logan discovers is going to be in this story for a couple issues.

“Times Square Red”

The second story of this issue fasts forwards to the 1970’s in New York. Logan is chasing down a killer within an XXX-movie theater. Which doesn’t bode well for that individual. Within this story you see Logan track down this killer in what feels like a way the police could easily have done as well. But because of the area of town this takes place, the authorities do not care to make it a priority. You also get a little taste of Logan’s witty comedic dialogue too.

“Red Claws”

The third and final story in this issue takes place sometime after Logan escapes the Weapon X facility. Logan is in a snow blanketed forest. He comes across a liter of baby wolves whose mother needs help. After helping and providing some food to the pack, Logan senses something in the distance. Let’s just say, what he senses should’ve never been in those woods. Logan’s protective instincts take over, and things get “bloody.”

Artwork

The artwork for ALL three stories in this issue is absolutely majestic! The line work is so raw adding a rough grainy texture to the panels. Add in the amazing shading to give depth to the panels as well. The title of this series gives away the third color that is used, red. The amount of red and its many shades make all of the fighting and “bloody” panels pop for the reader. Nothing but spot on in terms of the art!

My Thoughts

Logan: Black, White & Blood does not disappoint! This first issue does an amazing job of bringing the animalistic nature of Logan to life. With three short stories, that each cover a facet of Logan’s life. Story one, Logan as a soldier. Story two, Logan the vigilante. Lastly, story three, Logan the protector. Everything with this issue speaks to who Logan is. This is the first issue of this new series, so go out and pick up this three-in-one debut issue today!
