The Story

After the thrilling events that took place in Imperial War: Black Panther, T’Challa finds himself as Leader of the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda, and on a mission. T’Challa finds himself in a mysterious planet that he can’t make heads or tails of. In this strange land, T’Challa is unable to contact Wakanda and is left on his own. Unfortunately, this mysterious land is as defensive as it can get, as he’s already been attacked by monstrous creatures. Among those creatures was what he thought was Ka-Zar, but turned out to not even be human. With mystery surrounding this place, and now these strange machines posing as humans an creatures, T’Challa has no idea what to make of this land.

Back at the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda, Shuri is beside herself with worry that she hasn’t heard from T’Challa, even if she doesn’t want to show it. She knows where T’Challa’s last known whereabouts were pinged, so she grabs Femi. Femi is an orphan who’s old home was where T’Challa was last registered to be, so surely he can offer some insight to Shuri. Shuri an Femi make their way there to find out what happened to the leader of in Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda. Once they arrive, it becomes clear that there’s so much more than meets the eye.

The Writing

Victor LaValle, the writer of Black Panther: Intergalactic #1, sets the tone immediately in the story with T’Challa being attacked by a monstrous snake. That level of energy comes and goes throughout the comic, with a cloud of mystery hovering above the story for its entirety.

Along with the excitement, there’s a lot of heart in the comic. One of my favorite parts is with T’Challa burying Femi’s father and the monologue that went with it. It showed the moral compass T’Challa keeps with him, no matter what he’s going through. LaValle brought so much to the story, and his ability to keep you hooked into the story will have me anxiously waiting for the next issue of Black Panther: Intergalactic to drop!

The Art

The artwork of Black Panther: Intergalactic #1 is nothing short of stunning! With perfectly detailed pages, you find yourself lost in the panels of this strange and mysterious land T’Challa has found himself lost in. Excellently complimenting the drawings is the bright colors that perfectly juxtapose the darker colors with gorgeous vibrancy. Wrapping the comic up with a perfect bow is the lettering, that provides a perfect flow of dialogue while capturing the urgency of the emotions throughout the comic. All of this is thanks to Stefano Nesi, Bryan Valenza, and Ariana Maher, who deserves all their flowers for their excellent work!

Final Thoughts

Black Panther: Intergalactic #1 is an exciting read all the way through, with an excellent mystery surrounding the story. This is a must have for anyone’s pull list!
