The Story
After the events of Imperial, Teddy and Billy were thrown onto Earth, with Teddy’s home being destroyed. If that wasn’t enough to set the tone, Teddy is extremely injured, and Billy’s magic is on the fritz. Having to physically move Teddy to find somewhere that can help him, Billy comes across a town. It’s not a peaceful find as the town is being attacked by the forest spirits called the Leshy. Forest Spirits were believed to be healers, so it’s unheard of that the Leshy attack like this.

According to the townsfolk, there’s a witch who controls the Leshy not far from them. Billy, AKA Wiccan, asks for directions to the witch because maybe she’s able to help with his magic disappearing, Hulkling’s health, and stopping the Leshy from hurting this town even more.
Now, Nerd Initiatives’ Kat and myself, Megan, reviewed this issue, and you can see our thoughts below:
The Art
Kat – Andy is a new comic book artist for me. That being said, OH MY GOD, the art in this book is amazing. Between the heartfelt moments and all of the action, it works together so well. Add in Bryan on colors and Ariana on the lettering, and it comes together perfectly.
Megan – The artwork of Wiccan: Witches’ Road #1 was simply gorgeous. Andy Pereira included so much detail to every page that it was hard to look away from. Bryan Valenza worked with the starking colors of Hulkling and Wiccan to contrast the muted tones, which paid off handsomely. Ariana Maher comes in with the lettering that’s top quality. Maher gives so much emotion to the words, it’s easy to understand the tone of the story at every point.
The Writing
Kat – Wyatt Kennedy knows how to write these characters. I didn’t know much about Wiccan before this comic, and now I feel like I know more about him as a character. This first issue sets up what we are going to see for the rest of the series, and I cannot wait.
Megan – Wyatt Kennedy perfectly captures the love the between Hulkling and Wiccan with small romantic moments and their genuine care for each other. Apart from their relationship, the story itself is exciting with high energy all throughout the plot. There’s a looming feeling of mystery surrounding the story that keeps you locked into the pages of Wiccan: Witches’ Road #1. All in all, this was a very strong start and I’ll be anxiously waiting for the new issue to drop!
Final Thoughts
Kat – 10/10. I love this series, and just 1 issue in, I cannot wait for what’s coming next. Wiccan’s adventures are going to be something I will be enjoying every step of the way.
Megan – 10/10. I have been looking forward to this comic to come out for months and I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest bit! Wiccan: Witches’ Road #1 was powerful, exciting, and endearing.
Overall Grade – 10/10
