The Story
While the Age of Revelation is in full swing, it seems Revelation isn’t the only threat looming in the shadows. In Unbreakable X-Men #1, Lady Henrietta, the guardian of Penumbra, makes her return to Haven House with unsettling news, Shuvahrak has awakened. Shuvahrak, who has the ability of enslaving the entire world, has become too powerful for Henrietta to contain. Fortunately for Henrietta, the Outliers once made a vow to stop Shuvahrak if she were to ever escape, according to Ransom. So now, it’s time to get the team back together.
The Writing

Gail Simone, the writer of Unbreakable X-Men, immediately sets the tone with Gambit monologuing his mourning of Rogue. From there, the energy grows and grows with tension all throughout the character dynamics. The tension between the Outliers disappears as soon as they’re fighting side by side, which goes to show how these four mutants will always be a family.
Seeing the Outliers together was exciting, but what really hammered in the depth of the characters was how they’ve grown and handled themselves amidst the Age of Revelation. The confidence Jitter and Calico has as adults undeniable, while Hotaru remains the same dark and introverted character we all know and love.
With the team back together, there was a noticeable elevation in spirits amongst the team. I’m very excited to see where Simone goes with story as we left on a particularly gripping cliffhanger.
The Art
There were quite a few artists that worked on Unbreakable X-Men #2, and the amount of talent shows heavily in the pages. Emotions are high throughout the comic, which the artists perfectly illustrate within the art. With the wonderfully drawn panels, Espen Grundetjern brings all the heat with their work on the colors. There are a few pages in particular that perfectly show the brilliant work Grundetjern brings to the comic, mostly dealing with Shuvahrak.
All in all, the artists of the comic, Espen Grundetjern, and Clayton Cowles, who handled the lettering, knocked it out of the park!
Final Thoughts
Unbreakable X-Men #2 upped the ante in a big way. This issue was a roller coaster ride of emotions and action that you don’t want to get off of.
