The Story
Now that Logan has been brainwashed by Revelation, all of the people who love and cared for him will do anything to get him back. Leonard says he has a debt to pay Logan, and will do anything to help him. So, when a new ally shows up, Vindicator, and says she wants to help Logan, Leonard doesn’t need to be asked twice. This will mean they have to go behind enemy lines into Revelation’s territory, and there’s no way of knowing all that could happen.
With such a big mission at hand, they’ll need back up, and who better to turn to than Nightcrawler? Now that the team is formed, it’s time to put the plan into action to save Logan and get him out of Revelation’s control once and for all.
The Writing
Tensions are high, nerves are on edge, and all the players know the risks. Saladin Ahmed raised the bar with the excitement from the first issue in The Last Wolverine #2 in a big way. Nightcrawler, Vindicator, and Leonard are all willing to risk their lives for Logan, and you can feel their anxiousness on the pages.
Throughout the comic, it’s very uncertain what will happen next, given that you have no idea how the virus will impact the team, but by the end of it, you’re hit with a huge surprise. This was all written perfectly by Ahmed, who keeps you on your toes throughout the comic.
The Art
What I appreciated the most about the artwork of The Last Wolverine #2 was how the powersets were portrayed. Edgar Salazar goes above and beyond to make the powers look larger than life, while having a looming feeling of uncertainty once they’re used. Uncertain because you don’t know what will happen with the character’s powersets due to the virus. Alongside Salazar is Carlos Lopez, who handles the colors of the comic. Lopez is able to make the powersets practically pop off the page with his use of vibrant colors juxtaposing more earthy tones. Together, Salazar and Lopez create artwork that you don’t want to turn your head away from.
Final Thoughts
The Last Wolverine #2 upped the ante in a big way, keeping you on the edge of your seat the entire time.
