The Story
Lauren – Leonard the Wendigo is back! He was once saved by Wolverine, AKA Logan, who wouldn’t give up on a kid with the wendigo curse. Leonard has now taken the name Wolverine and become a well known hero. However, his savoir and mentor is a shell of who he was once was. While Logan may be the best at what he does, he always seems to be the most vulnerable when it comes to being controlled. A victim of this age of revelation, the OG Wolverine isn’t what he used to be.
Megan – The Age of Revelation has touched every part of the Marvel world, so of course Wolverine has been effected. Not just Wolverine, but his protege, his last student, Leonard, AKA the Wendigo. As a child, Leonard was attacked by the Wendigo which turned him into a bloodthirsty monster. It was Logan that took Leonard in and showed him the way of being a hero, so he followed in Wolverine’s footsteps. However, when the Gene Bomb exploded, everything changed. Wolverine changed in ways Leonard didn’t think possible, no longer the hero he looked up to. With Wolverine vacating his hero role, the spot was open for Leonard to become the Wonderful Wolverine the world needed.
Saladin Ahmed does a fantastic job providing a beam of positivity in what’s been a thrilling and dark event. Leonard provides a much needed kindness and vibrancy in this new dystopian world.
The Art
Lauren – As soon as I saw the first glimpse of Leonard as Wolverine, I was amped for this run. Leonard is a gentle giant, and you can see it on every page. I love how much genuine emotion came from his eyes throughout this issue. However, we also got so many gorgeous and beautifully colored action shots, and landscapes. The details found in the background of an old friend’s house were just a little cherry on top to some amazing artwork in The Last Wolverine #1.
Megan – Edgar Salazar, the artist of The Last Wolverine #1, brought the heat and didn’t stop when it comes to the art. Leonard looked incredible as the last Wolverine, donning the classing suit of Logan, while still having his Wendigo features. He lit up every panel he was featured in, making it easy to keep him as the focus. Alongside Salazar was Carlos Lopez who served as the colorist of the comic. Lopez used his incredible talents to make Leonard practically pop off the pages. With the contrast of the white fur with the vibrant yellow and blue of his suit, Leonard was very easy on the eyes.
Overall Grade – 8.4/10
Lauren -8.5/10. I absolutely love how well Marvel can create stories that work so well stand alone, while simultaneously creating a larger world with various other runs. Fans can enjoy as much or as little as they want (or can). The Last Wolverine #1 did exactly that. It introduced us to Leonard AKA Wolverine, and quickly got us caught up with the X-Men: Age of Revelation. All while telling a story unique to this character. I can’t wait to see where this new Wolverine, in this new world, takes us. SNIKT!
Megan – 8.2/10. I thought this was an excellent addition to the thrilling event of X-Men: Age of Revelation! I love how we’re getting so many different perspectives of characters who’s been affected by the Gene Bomb and the X-Virus, as well as Revelation himself!
