Creative Team: Benjamin Percy (WRITER), Julius Ohta (ARTIST), Yen Nitro (COLORS), VC’s Cory Petit, Marco Checcetto (COVER ARTIST), and Matt Wilson (COVER COLORIST).

The Story:

Ben gives us a hair raising narration from Kingpin in this issue as he is detailing how him and Frank hurt to help others in the end to justify his mission of destruction. We see that Micro is being tortured and Frank is operating as though he is robotic and yet still in control of his own actions.

Percy takes us inside of Frank’s mind as well ensuring the audience that no civilian casualties will happen while he blocks off a tunnel to take down a trucker in a semi. This story continues to leave us with a slight queasy feeling and very unsettled as the pieces move into place and were being left breadcrumbs as to the endgame.

The Art and Letters:

Yen and Julius are bringing the heat with this issue. There are scenes in which Frank is standing tall in his black and white uniform, which is an excellent splash sequence. Alternatively, they have created a freak of nature and someone we truly should fear in Kingpin. The duo shows Wilson stripped down, detailing every muscle, and highlighting how truly terrifying he is as a man.

If that is not enough, we are met with a scene of him whipping himself in the back as though he is punishing himself, as Cory lets his demonic inner monologue. We are used to seeing Kingpin as a massive being but, not in this way. Adding to the level of nightmare fuel they give Tombstone as he kidnaps one of the detectives and the panel is showing him every bit of ghoulish as he is.

Overall Grade: 10/10

The Punisher Red Band #2 builds the anticipation and suspense by laying out Fisk’s plans through a creative monologue matched with artwork showing Fisk in a way we have truly never seen him before. This is Fisk on a level that will shock fans without question.
