The Story

Matt – Not every story has a happy ending; however, thankfully, this one does! I am sad to see this run end, but Ryan has penned a triumphant and excellent ending to this fast-paced story. Krypto leaps into action and completes his hero’s journey saving a family who was being held at gunpoint before flying and finding his true family.

Ryan places nods to previous issues in this one, all of which have helped shape our beloved dog to become who is was meant to be. The ending will make your heart melt and bring the right amount of happiness we need right now.

Megan – We’re at the end of the run and Ryan North knew exactly what to bring the story that’ll continue the trend of pulling our heartstrings. Krypto proves that he’s a hero time and time again, and that’s exactly how we start this story, with Krypto being a hero.

Saving a family who’s held hostage at gunpoint in their own house, we see a very interesting bit of trauma affecting Krypto when the going gets tough. Working through the horrors of his past, Krypto saves the family. While this could have been the main story of the fifth issue, it’s absolutely not.

Krypto, while gettings thanks from the kind family, smells something familiar and launches himself into the air, excited and determined to find the source of the scent. Crashing into a farmer, the reader realizes it’s none other than Pa Kent. Pa, who is bewildered by this flying dog, quickly runs him inside to Martha and Clark. The family immediately welcomes Krypto, realizing that he has the same powers as Clark. Finally, Krypto has found his home.

The Art

Matt – Norton and Herring deliver some excellent shots in this finale. We even get a nod to the Mighty Crabjoys as the poster is snuck in the back! Aside from that, I loved the look of Clark standing proudly and the little details such as him wearing Converse to complete his look as Krypto has his red cape, may be my favorite scene from this run! Lucas’ letters together this finale and tie everything perfectly!

Megan – The artwork of Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton has been on point consistently thanks to the incredible creative team. Mike Norton has taken Krypto’s story and has matched each emotion Ryan North has written brilliantly, making us, the readers, share in this emotional roller coaster. With the help of Ian Herrin, who handles the colors, Norton made Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #5 a beautiful conclusion of the comic run filled with happiness, acceptance, and satisfaction.

Krypto being drawn as a happy superdog who finally has found his place in the world is perfectly portrayed on the pages of the comic, matched with vibrant colors that seal the deal of the vibe of the comic.

Along with Norton and Herring, Lucas Gattoni joins this issue as the letterer, and nails the flow of the comic. With heightened emotions all throughout the comic, Gattoni is able to perfectly convey the dialogue. When Krypto meets the Kents, there’s a sense of comfort in Pa’s words that Gattoni was able to knock out of the park.

Overall Grade – 10

Matt – 10/10 easily! This has been a rollercoaster of an emotional ride as we have been through it all with Krypto, but the team capped off this run in true Superman fashion, making this mini run a must-read front to back!

Megan – 10/10. Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton has been exciting, tragic, emotional, and heartwarming. All of this thanks to the phenomenal artists that brought this story to life!
