The New Dynamic Duo

Harley Quinn is in a funk, which was caused by her missing out on the big Halloween bash due to illness. Meanwhile, Elvira is losing her tv show because of the sale of the company she worked for. So, when Harley gets the idea of throwing a Halloween Party in August with Elvira as the guest of honor, what could go wrong? Built on the bond of unemployment and revenge, this is the start of a beautiful relationship.

Stage Spite

This first issue is a lot of fun and really sets the tone for what will inevitably be a super entertaining series. Amanda Conner & Jimmy Palmiotti really capture the essence of both main characters well having a ton of fun in the process. In a world of writers who try and make characters overly serious, this fun take is a breath of fresh air. The ridiculous premise really opens up the possibilities of where this story will go. The sexual based humor is funny and never feels cringy or in bad taste.

The art in this issue is fantastic and captures both characters and the worlds they come from. The art team really makes this book feel like a true crossover, and not just a guest appearance in a separate world. The character designs are spot on, and the backgrounds really stand out. The colors are bright and warm which adds to the fun of the story.

Final Thoughts

Harley Quinn x Elvira #1 delivers a fun and entertaining story with a ton of humor. The sexual innuendos are on point and never cross the line. Well, the all-out absurdity of the story is one of its stronger points. A story that’s not afraid to take itself unserious and steer all the way into the realm of fun, is not only welcomed, but also makes it stand out. This book is my Pick of the Week, and you should run to your LCS and get your copy ASAP!
