The Story
World of Revelation #1 isn’t just one story, but three different stories. Three different perspectives of the impacts in the lives of the characters from the hands of Doug Ramsey, AKA Revelation.
In the comic, you’ll read “The Message” which follows a mysterious figure and gives a beautifully written story courtesy of Al Ewing. In this story, you’ll follow the mystery figure into the dystopian world that’s been affected negatively in the last decade to find out exactly what Apocalypse thinks of his heir’s devastation he’s laid into the Marvel world.
In “Never Let Me Go“, we follow Wiccan and Hulking who have lost much more than most because of Revelation, and continue to lose everything they hold near and dear. Steve Foxe knows exactly what threads to pull to make the reader feel the emotions of the characters.
Last but certainly not least, “Epoch of Revelation” by Ryan North is another story that you’ll find yourself feeling the tragic aftermath of the virus that claimed so many lives. Included in those losses is none other than the Fantastic Four, leaving Franklin Richards the final survivor of the era impacted by the virus and that of Doug Ramsey. Each story brings its own depth, and really puts a different perspective on how far the impact of the Age of Revelation goes.
The Art
Each story brings its own heat with the artwork, and all three hits as hard as the emotions of the stories themselves. “The Message” comes with a more muted, much more soft art style that fits the long winded journey of the character perfectly. “Never Let Me Go” is much more animated in detail and colors, which fits the high energy and action like a mystical glove. “Epoch of Revelation” feels much more dramatic, with the main character and their dark tones contrasting each panel, which hammers in the fact that he’s all alone ever so perfectly.
Together, all three stand on their own in terms of unique style and perfectly matching the stories. Hats off to all the artists involved because they made this 37 page book have so much depth, you would have sworn each story was its own comic book.
Final Thoughts
There’s so much World of Revolution #1 gives the reader. With three different stories, following three completely different perspectives, the amount of depth given is powerful and beautiful.
Overall Grade – 9.3/10
