The Story:

Stephanie has instantly transported me back to my childhood with this opening issue of the series. She has captured the tone of the Bolten Brothers to perfection with all of their puns and the spirit of shredding in various ways with the help of Jeff on the lettering.

This is a lighthearted story as the Sharks are still coming to terms with their transformation and attempting to win public favor all the while stopping Dr. Paradigm. The essence and heart is on full display in this issue and I cannot wait to see what is in store.

The Art:

Starting with the cover that Phillip has done, there is an instant nostalgic factor for me, and it took me back to the toys that I used to have of these sharks. It is brightly colored and wonderfully detailed, giving us a taste of the chaos that is inside.

The panels inside match the cover energy with Ariel, Jonathon, and Valentina detailing the various expressions that the brothers display. It can be difficult to capture worry and fear, and aggression when it comes to these types of creatures; however, they make it seem effortless. The coloring in this book stands out and fills the panels, making this issue so much fun visually and pop like the classic cartoons.

OVERALL GRADE: 9.5/10
