Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I’m going to be reviewing the 3rd issue of Gargoyles: Demona from Dynamite Entertainment!

Demona is continuing her journey through time with a singular goal in mind, vengeance. She’s been joined by her adopted daughter Angelika and they’ve left their familiar surroundings for a change of scenery. But just will they find any semblance of peace? Let’s jump into it!
Gargoyles: Demona #3 by Greg Weisman (Writer), Frank Paur (Artist), Robby Bevard (Colorist), Jeff Eckleberry (Letterer) is a very compelling issue that takes things in a different direction, but it works so incredibly well.
The Story
Greg Weisman has taken Demona to France in 1138 and things are very different, but still a little bit familiar. I liked the different view we got to see in this issue, because Demona was not the main focus in the issue. Yes, she does still appear but our main focus is a group of stone gargoyles that are NOT Demona & Angelika.
It’s some of the same story building you’re used to, but it builds on top of that familiarity by adding a bit of new magic into it. It’s a great story, and fantastic wrinkle that was introduced. I sincerely hope we get to see more of that wrinkle down the road, cause I think it could make for some very compelling stories.
The Artwork
Frank Paur & Robby Bevard both do a tremendous job with the artwork from start to finish in this issue. The med-evil gothic feeling is VERY strong in this issue. It’s very dark, mysterious and with a hint of familiarity when it comes to that classic Gargoyles look. There are so many pages in this that would look great as a full sized poster.
Overall Grade: 9.5/10
FINAL POINT: If you’re a Gargoyles fan, you NEED to be reading this series. It’s taking one of the most beloved villains and peeling back the onion on some of the mysteries surrounding her. Greg Weisman continues to be at the top of his game with another great story. The artwork from Frank & Robby helps elevate the issue to incredible heights that needs to be read ASAP! This issue is truly Gargoyles at it’s best!
