If you’ve been following along thus far in Void Rivals, you know that nothing is what it seems, and we’ve been learning something new every issue.

Now Grakula is trying to uncover what is so special about her new armor, as she plainly says, “It’s Something More.” What more exactly?!?
Turning the page back to Agorria, Springer and Hot Rod do their best to bring allies together, but that deems harder than anticipated.
Void Rivals #22:
Writer: Robert Kirkman
Artist: Conor Hughes
Color Artist: Patricio Delpeche
Letters: Rus Wooton
Publisher: IMAGE COMICS/SKYBOUND ENT
The Art:
Hughes brings something truly special to the multi-layered beauty that is Energon. From the Agorrians and Zertonians to the Transformers themselves and a major surprise at the end of the issue, he’s able to really put unique and special aspects into each of these character sets.
The tone of the art changes from page to page depending on who or what is leading the charge and that’s certainly by design.
This series brings all of Energon together in a comic universe that we’ve never explored until now and it’s an absolute thrill ride.

The Writing:
Kirkman’s writing in Void Rivals continues to impress with its seamless blend of character-driven storytelling and world-building. He takes what could have been a simple “enemies forced to work together” premise and elevates it into a nuanced exploration of loyalty, identity, and the manufactured divisions between peoples.
Even the antagonists, like the Proximus or the increasingly complex Skuxxoid, feel layered and alive, making every confrontation feel earned rather than obligatory.
What stands out most in this latest issue is Kirkman’s ability to weave long-term payoffs into the story. Seeds planted as far back as the earliest issues, Skuxxoid’s evolution, the hidden truths of the Sacred Ring, and even subtle Energon Universe ties like Pythona’s attack and Hot Rod’s alliance, are coming to fruition in ways that feel both surprising and inevitable.
Overall Grade: 9/10
Another stellar issue in the run that ends with more questions that answers … but isn’t that how we love our comics!?! If you are a fan of anything that touches the Energon Universe, Void Rivals is a must on your pull list!
