He’s back and ready for more blood! Battle Beast #4 arrives this week and thus far, our protagonist has had some issues finding competition worthy enough to not only face but die to in battle.

Will this month be any different, well probably not. Actually … issue #4 might just be what the doctor ordered and will be different, VERY different, without spoiling anything.
Let’s just say our favorite beast’s heart might get a chance to grow “three sizes” in this issue and we might just see a different side of him. This might be the issue where Beast … [gasp] makes friends!?!?
Creative Team:
Writer: Robert Kirkman
Artist: Ryan Ottley
Color Artist: Annalisa Leoni
Letters: Rus Wooton
Publisher: IMAGE COMICS/SKYBOUND ENT
The Art:
Ottley is so damn good and when he’s working on the Invincible Universe, he really feels at home.
No one can draw Beast any better than him. His micro-expressions in his face, the quick change from warrior to protector and back again.
Also, Ottley gets to show off a bit with these new, gorgeous creatures, ones that Beast has a soft spot for – who knew??
We also get introduced to a new character, one that raises a lot of flags, including how she and Beast meet. This issue is truly a visual masterpiece and Ottley is clearly having a blast.
“INVINCIBLE UNIVERSE: BATTLE BEAST #3 – THE RAGE IS BEING UNLEASHED
The Writing:
The old damsel in distress trick gets the every single time! While I’m disappointed in our protagonist here to fall for such an act, Kirkman yet again delivers an exciting book.
He’s so good at weaving in age-old storylines with new characters and new worlds in such a concise and fun way. This book could have been 40 pages long, yet you get a full story in 5 pages or less with more to come.
So much happens in the first third of the book, it’s crazy! The man is scary talented when it comes to scripting out plots and world building.
There’s a little bit old fable here, a little bit buddy cop and so much more. It’s just a fantastic read, one that ramps up next month with a possible show-down!
Overall Grade: 9/10
While meeting a new adversary possibly worthy of our friend Battle Beast, Kirkman keeps it light and moving along, even while so much is happening. It’s a refreshing take on the character and story long before things had ever gotten stale. Kirkman and Ottley once again prove why they are the Shaq and Kobe of the comic book world.
