SOLICITATION:

“Milton Shaw is a battle-hardened bomber pilot, flying missions over a war-torn world ruled by a ruthless empire. But when his plane is shot out of the sky, Milton wakes up behind enemy lines. Where exactly — in the smoldering ruins of a city he helped burn.

In less than 24 hours, his own side is dropping the big one to finish the job. Now, injured, unarmed, and being hunted through enemy streets, Milton’s only shot at escape comes from the unlikeliest place: a grieving father and his son…” (Image Comics)

*SPOILERS FOR ISSUE #1″

SHOT DOWN. HUNTED. OUT OF TIME.

Escape is exactly as advertised. You have anthropomorphic characters situated in a World War II scenario. But not just any scenario. The reader will be thrown in the middle of the war. During an Airborne bombing operation. Unfortunately, the leading character’s airplane shot down.

Eventually he finds himself in a precarious and dangerous plight. Now crashed behind enemy lines. After delivering a successful bombing attack. Enemy troops go hunting for Milton Shaw. Stranded, alone and deep inside the heart of the enemy’s land. Shaw has no way back, no one coming to rescue. It’s up to him and him alone to find a way to escape.

HOW ABOUT THE ART?

If anyone was going to be able to pull Anthropomorphic Characters substituting the Allied Forces versus the Axis in a World War II scenario, that would have been the incredibly talented Daniel Acuña. I am a fan of Acuña’s work. So, I have a biased opinion.

However, I highly encourage you to give this a chance. If not for the premise or the plot. Or the potential of this story. But for the art alone. Daniel Acuña is one of the best comic book illustrators of the modern era.

OVERALL GRADE: 10/10

Rick Remender has matched “Inglorious Bastards”, “Saving Private Ryan”, and “Enemy Lines”. With rugged and nettle-tested anthropomorph characters. The characters are funny, jagged, and rough around the edges. They even displayed individual qualities and character traits.

No matter their differences, they all had one thing in common: they all hated Nazis. This is a high intensity, high stakes setting that you don’t want to miss out on. If you’re a fan of war stories or movies, this is definitely in your alley.
