The Story

Red Tornado, being the heart and soul of the Watchtower, has been hard at work running and re-running algorithmic outcomes, and each time the result is the same; tragedy is going to strike.

According to Red Tornado, the Justice League lacks the perspective of seeing what needs to be done, and the only one that can is him. So, the best thing to do is form a secret team under that none of the Justice League knows about.

Red Tornado already has team members in mind, as he sends out a signal to Power Girl and Simon Baz’s Green Lantern. That signal took the two powerhouses by surprise, as Red Tornado made their Justice League ID cards light up red. Being the heroes they are, even though confused, Green Lantern and Power Girl still responded to the call.

Upon hearing Red Tornado’s plan to form a secret team under the Justice League, Green Lantern and Power Girl didn’t agree with the idea, but the android begged them for their help. The heroes agree and take off to their first mission. The mission itself seemed way too easy, and Power Girl is very suspicious, not just of the mission, but of the android that sent them there in the first place.

The Writing

Justice League Red #1 was an excellent start to what I hope will be an action-packed thrill ride that highlights some really great characters. Saladin Ahmed, the writer of the comic, keeps you hooked into the story and keeps you on your toes.

He always has something surprising around the corner. Justice League Red #1 ends on a very interesting cliffhanger, one that’ll keep me anxiously waiting to see where it goes from here.

The Art

Clayton Henry, the artist of Justice League Red #1, does a phenomenal job at bringing these characters and their story to life. There was a beautiful amount of detail in each panel. It makes it hard to want to flip to the next page. Along with Henry, Arif Prianto handles the colors. This style works really well with contrasting colors that make each panel shine in its own light. Henry and Prianto work so well together, and this comic is the proof of that.

Also on the creative team is Lucas Gattoni and Ryan Christy, who both handle the lettering. They make each bit of dialogue hit hard. I think their talents really shine when it comes to Red Tornado. Each sentence the android utters is filled with a sense of power with an ominous feeling attached to it, making the reader really holding on to what he says.

Final Thoughts

This was a very strong start for Justice League Red #1, and I really look forward to seeing what’s next. The creative team has me very hopeful that it’ll be a banger of a comic run.

Overall Grade – 9.1/10
