The Story and Writing
Megan – After all the chaos that happened with Gwen when she had to come to terms with her new cosmic powers, it’s now time for her to adjust to her new life on Earth-616. Gwen used her powers to relocate her and her father to this new universe they will call home. She’s growing closer to Fabian, she’s starting her band, and she’s getting more and more comfortable with her new powers. Things seem to be going incredibly well for Gwen, which isn’t at all what she’s used to. Which makes you think, how long can that last? How long until things turn back to chaos? Well, as it seems, it shouldn’t be long at all.
Stephanie Phillips is back writing for Gwen, and she started this comic run off with a bang. While Gwen is growing more comfortable in her new life, there are moving parts that are happening that she isn’t seeing. Moving parts that are drenched in darkness and violence, and now Gwen has seen the discourse first hand when it affects her new band mate, Wes. Of course, just when things seem to be going so well for her, the rug is pulled right out from under her.
Kat – Stephanie Phillips never ceases to amaze me with her writing. Gwen is the perfect character for her, and getting to continue to write her is exciting. I’m so ready to see where the story goes from here.
The Art
Megan – Paolo Villanelli is back to work on the art, along with Matt Milla and Ariana Maher, and all three bring the thrilling story to life. The same vibe in the art from the Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider run follows the story into this new run, which I love to see. However, there’s a much darker feel especially when it comes to our unnamed antagonist. The artists did a great job at giving us just enough to establish how dangerous and violent he is, while keeping the being surrounded in mystery. Just as the writer started this run, the artists also started off with a bang.
Kat – Paolo’s art has leveled up with this series. It looks colorful, which is exactly how Gwen’s world should look like. Add in Matt’s beautiful coloring work and Ariana’s exceptional lettering, and the issue comes together.
Final Thoughts
Megan – 10/10. The first issue of All-New Spider-Gwen: Ghost Spider made me very excited to see where Stephanie Phillips takes this run. If it’s anything like the last run, then I have very high hopes!
Kat – 10/10. Stephanie and her team have created another successful Spider-Gwen comic. This is hands down the best Spider-Gwen comic that has been released. It’s going to be excited to see where the story goes from here.
Overall Grade – 10/10

Not impressed. I’m all about her getting back to her roots and all, but it feels like we’re going down the same path Spider-Man did with the Venom storyline back when. Can’t we get fresh new ideas that doesn’t borrow from Spider-Man’s past stories and create her own brand and villains? Guess we’ll be seeing Gwen sprout extra arms like Spider-Man before long.
