The Story and Writing

In One World Under Doom #5, Maria Hill made her grand entrance with information that the heroes of the world so desperately wanted; proof that Doom was up to something. With this information, in One World Under Doom #6, Reed Richards plans to use that information against Doom, and in a public setting. The two have set up a debate in front of the entire world that Doom rules. Doom has agreed that if he loses, he will step down.

While this is happening, the heroes have invaded Latveria, hoping to get a real good look at what’s going on. With Doom distracted, they won’t get a better chance than this. Sue Storm, Natasha Romanoff, and Wanda Maximoff are able to enter into Latveria’s territory and find out what Doom’s been hiding for themselves. However, the truth is much darker than they could’ve guessed, almost too much to bare.

Ryan North brings back the fantastic story of World Emperor, Doctor Doom, after a two month break, and he comes back with a bang. There are so many different emotions and tones throughout One World Under Doom #6, and they’re all handled with a dramatic care. You can feel the sense of hopelessness when Reed realizes he’s losing the debate. Wanda and Reed’s anguish when they realizes what Doom has been doing is felt across the pages. Doom’s smugness when he thinks Reed has nothing on him is plastered all over the panels. I would go as far to say that One World Under Doom #6 is the best issue in this stupendous run so far.

The Art

With a great storyline, you have to have artwork that matches the quality, and that’s exactly what the artists delivered. R.B. Silva and David Curiel work together to bring the story to life, and do just that. There’s not one page that dulls in comparison to the others. Each panel is drenched in incredible detail, emotional expression, and colors that create the otherworldly energy that’s become prominent in this comic run. Travis Lanham joins Silva and Curiel by handling the letters, creating a dialogue that’s as powerful as Doom himself.

Another member of the creative team I wanted to highlight was Ben Harvey, who made probably my favorite cover art of the entire series. It’s dramatic, it’s dark, and it’s perfect

Final Thoughts

One World Under Doom #6 is easily my favorite issue from the run, and it only makes me more excited to see what Ryan North and the rest of the creative team does next.

Overall Grade – 10/10
