Dark Regards Heads Home

Dark Regards was an interesting idea to begin with. Now it’s full blown awesome! Dave Hill’s life is stale and he’s turning it into something new by forming a Black Metal band! Dave’s comedy career doesn’t do him any favors though. His wit and wild imagination put him in the cross-hairs of some of Norway’s most legendary bands! Now their in his hometown looking to defend their honor and destroy “Lance the King of Black Metal”!

In Case You Missed It: Dark Regards #2 Brutally Serious as a “Herd Attack”!

So issue 3 follows Dave’s trip home to check on his Mom and face the consequences of his actions. Lucifuge and other Black Metal icons seek out Dave’s alter ego Lance for his disparaging comments. They were holding his Mother hostage, but decided to move to an old steel mill, decorated as their home away from home. When Dave arrives it’s an epic standoff that leads into some hilarious dialogue and a unique situation!

Characters and Comedy in Dark Regards

The character development and dialogue in this issue is so well done. We get to learn more about these Black Metal Norwegians. They each have unique styles and specialties and reveal just as many insecurities as Dave and his band mates. All of the “Hail Satans” and arguments over names are so ridiculous and entertaining. Some are so hospital able and logical in illogical ways. It’s a great ensemble of characters.

Contrast that with Dave and Witch Taint and they feel so much like foils of the same people. Dave is constantly confused and crashing out in this issue. His band mates try their best to be in the moment. It’s funny that all of this just seems like another day for them.

The Dark Arts of Dark Regards

The artwork seems to get better with every issue. I love the designs of the Black Metal Steel Mill and each of the Norwegians. The imagery is otherworldly, like stepping into another dimension from Gary, Indiana. The hilarious, petty dialogue is complimented by some close-ups and great reactions on characters faces. There is so much great detail, engaging angles, and perfectly placed colors! This issue really finds a groove for the art team!

Overall Grade 10/10

Dark Regards is Metal AF! This is the best issue so far. It feels almost self contained while still leaving you on a really big cliffhanger! It’s funny, it’s fascinating, and it’s great to look at! I really feel like the creative team is getting in sync. The story only keeps gets better. Issues 1 and 2 were ab it sluggish but this one had me turning pages with anticipation for what’s next.
