The Story and Writing
After waking up from what he considers the best night of his life, Steve Trevor finds himself alone; Diana has left a note on her side of the bed saying there’s a “mouse problem” at the Capitol. Steve assumes it’s just a minor pest issue, but as he heads out, it becomes clear that this is no ordinary infestation. Giant mice, some the size of minivans, are attacking, and only Wonder Woman can stop them.
Diana quickly makes it clear that these creatures aren’t evil and instructs Steve not to harm them. She’s determined to uncover the root of the problem and, using her unique abilities, manages to communicate with the mice. That’s when she discovers the real villain: a bizarre man dressed as a mouse— essentially, a “mouse man”— who is controlling the rodents.
What really makes Wonder Woman #22 shine is the comedic thread woven from Steve as he repeatedly tries—and fails— to confess his feelings to Diana. His timing is always interrupted by the chaos around them, adding a light, playful tone to the story and highlighting the charming dynamic between the two characters.
Overall, this issue is a fun, lighthearted read with great chemistry between Diana and Steve. The cliffhanger ending promises more excitement ahead, and with Tom King at the helm, there’s every reason to believe the next chapter will be just as entertaining.
The Artist
The artist of Wonder Woman #22, Caitlin Yarsky, proves once again that she never misses. Yarsky matched the tone of the storyline perfectly with her art, bringing to life the lighthearted story. Yarky is accompanied by Alex Guimaráes, who handles the colors of Wonder Woman #22. Together, they do a fantastic job at keeping your eyes hooked to each panel. Clayton Cowles joins the creative team as the letterer, and brings power to each word.
The artwork throughout Wonder Woman #22 was excellent, but I have to say any panel showing Diana in action had to be my favorite parts. With a lighthearted storyline, it was nice to see Diana doing what she does best as Wonder Woman.
Final Thoughts
Wonder Woman #22 was a fun read, and I’m very interested to see where it goes after that cliffhanger we were left on. Tom King is a very talented writer, so he has my full attention!
Overall Grade – 7/10
