Dark Regards Gets the Band Together!
The wheels have been set in motion and Dave is making progress towards forming the greatest Black Metal band the world has ever seen! However, forming a band isn’t as easy as you would think. After getting rejected by two prospects and running into the D-Bag that stole his girl, things look dire. It’s not until fate steps in and provides him with a guitarist that things take off! As the band slowly forms with some unconventional members, Dave’s comedy career gets a boost as well!
Character Development and More from Dark Regards
This issue of Dark Regards feels like a step up from issue #1. Now that the stage is set we can get to the meat of the subject…the band! I love the way Dave Hill takes us on the journey of forming Witch Taint. Through what seems like a path of destiny, Dave finds each member of his new band. The characters he encounters are so familiar and well crafted. Having them each be from different walks of life is like a Jackson Pollock painting. Each should be a chaotic mess, but it actually works!
In Case You Missed It: Dark Regards #1 When Being Metal Goes Wrong

Dave Hill also provides us with some character growth as Dave encounters pieces of his past life. He’s on this new exciting path, but his past is still holding on to him. Between his comedy career and his ex-girlfriend, he doesn’t seem ready to fully commit to the new life he’s building, no matter how hard he tries to decorate it. It’s a really interesting dynamic.
The Not So Dark Arts of Dark Regards
The artwork in Dark Regards says gritty and realistic wrapped up in this classic comic look. Again, each of these characters are unique and are visual designed to compliment that. It all feels realistic, grounded, and larger than life at the same time. In other words…its METAL!
I love that Brittany Peer doesn’t shy away from using every color in her toolbox, including the absence of it at times. Every character pops against their backgrounds and no details get lost. There’s an intensity to it that fits the vibe of the illustrations and the story perfectly!
Overall Grade 9/10
Dark Regards issue #2 takes the framework from its debut and builds upon it. Dave’s journey is more complicated than it looks. The band members have interesting stories as well. They’re not just there for the music, but to add character to this living, breathing band known as Witch Taint. The artwork as a whole is the perfect compliment to the story. It not only drive the action but also the comedy and for a moment, some moments of real feelings. This one picks up the pace a bit and gets me a little more excited for what’s to come!
