Absolute Wonder Woman #8: As our next arc kicks off, a mysterious and familiar foe has emerged in Gateway City offering a helping hand as to where Diana can find more Amazons.

Creative Team:
Kelly Thompson (WRITER) Hayden Sherman (ART and COVER) Jordie Bellaire (COLORS and COVER) Becca Carey (LETTERS)
*SPOILERS AHEAD*
The Story:
I am really excited to see this next arc kick off in the series and to see where the team goes after setting us up so excellently in the previous arc. From the get-go Kelly brings us a familiar foe with a new origin it seems as Doctor Poison has entered which I am really intrigued how they will be handling her in this new story.
Not only do we have Doctor Poison but, Kelly gives us another familiar face with Barbara being introduced. It’s a breath of fresh air and excitement as Steve returns and Diana is part of this mixed team. The team dynamics is what has me most excited as we have seen Diana’s past and how she handles herself on her own. Now we get to introduce different dynamics and so far we’re picking up where we left off in terms of excellent world building and story telling.
The Art and Letters:
Hayden and Jordie are back combining their forces in an exciting new fashion. Their work on our jungle scenery where the team is brings about lush colors and Jordie’s palettes amongst the greens and Diana’s design play together well to the eyes. One detail that I love and that stood out to me is Diana has a tribal arm sleeve which may not seem like a big deal but, it’s a detail that for some reason I love. It’s a new take on Wonder Woman and highlights her as a warrior.
With Doctor Poison I love how Hayden reveals her to be in gas form when she comes out of the costume. The gas form along with the vintage bulky suit is a design that works well and is drawn uniquely, showing both the roots of these characters while progressing them forward. I’m not sure how Becca manages to do it but, when it comes to lettering the way Diana speaks she nails the softness and innocence in her voice compared to how Doctor Poison is lettered with more harshness in the tone.
Overall Grade: 9.5/10
Absolute Wonder Woman #8 kicks off this new arc by taking the foundation of its previous issues and kicking it up a notch. This is a story that continues to get better with each issue while introducing layers to Diana and bringing in original and fresh backstories and ideas. This continues to be one of the best things DC has produced this year and you do not want to keep missing out.
