The Story:

While Melinda May works with the Latverian insurgency, Iron Man has issues to deal with at home. A labor union strike threatens to end Tony’s plans to take Doom down before they can even start. Iron Man will have to cross line after line and even go against his friends in order to see his plans come to fruition.

The Writing:

To start off, this book was a dense read. There is a heavy focus on dialogue and not much in the way of action. However, this is not a bad thing by any means. I simply bring this up as a way to praise Spencer Ackerman’s ability as a writer. While there are a lot of word bubbles, this issue never felt bogged down. I was invested throughout and I am very excited to see where this goes and how it is going to end. Also, I found myself becoming more invested in the new young magic user, Vishte.

The Art:

The art team continues to turn in solid work. With two artists on board on this issue, the transition was seamless and made sense without taking me out of the story. The small amount of action and the transition pages of Iron Man and Vishte in flight were excellent. While this current Iron Man armor is far from my favorite, it looked great here. I have to comment, however, that the “Repulsword” is fantastic as always! Yasmine Putri’s cover art is perfection once again.

Overall Grade: 9/10

As the One World Under Doom story continues to roll along. Unlike most event tie-ins, I am still really enjoying this series. With a healthy dose of intrigue, corporate headaches, and betrayal Iron Man #8 is a must read!
