Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1:
With the Disney + show about to hit the streaming service in January, we’re getting an intimate look at this Spider-Man’s origin and it differs greatly from the original comics.
Everything about this version of high school aged Peter Parker is fresh and made for a new generation. And in this issue, we jump right into the action!
Creative Team:
Writer: Christos Gage
Artist: Eric Gapstur
Color Artist: Jim Campbell
Letters: VC’S Joe Caramagna
PUBLISHER: Marvel Comics
The Art:
Gapstur really delivers on a youthful and fun way of visually guiding you through this special prequel.
Peter is the high school hero we all know and love, and yet this has a vintage feel with some modern twists.
There’s definitely an Humberto Ramos feel to the pages here, with an animation style that doesn’t skimp on details and emotion.

The Writing:
The writing is fast, fun and also adventurous as Peter discovers his new powers in a very different way from the original backstory.
The one thing missing that I’m sure we’ll get more from later on is the emotional tied to his duty as a hero. Without spoiling anything, you’ll understand what I mean when you read the issue.
But I have a feeling the next issue will delve into this as we head to the wrestling ring!
Overall: 8/10
A fun start, but this Spider-Man back story is missing a couple of emotional ties to why he’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. My guess though is we are going to get that in the next issue or so!
