The Story for Issue 6
As this beautiful story wraps up, we continue to go back and forth from the past to the present. Helen continues on another adventure and we learn a bit more about where she came from. While, Helen never asks much about her mother, her grandfather decides it’s her right to know the truth. While her mother was not a “whore” who died having her, she never could have imaged who or what she was. With each adventure she learns to trust herself more, and this time she had to go deep (literally) to do so.
The Art
Throughout this entire series the art has been gorgeous. Even the scenes with violence and blood, were beautiful, and not in a look away from the page, sort of way. It was all just magical (in the story and the art). From our world, to the other world, to under the sea we see nothing but beauty and detail. One page in particular showed a calming background with an incredibly detailed Wyndhorn manor, that was deserving of a moment to pause and take it all in.
Helen of Wyndhorn #6 Rating 9/10
The story of Helen of Wyndhorn isn’t just a story of a strong woman of the past, fighting against mythical beasts. It’s a story of fighting your past, and breaking generational trauma. It’s about learning who you are, what you’re capable of, and not letting the past dictate that. While also accepting your past and where you came from (no matter your age).
However, Helen of Wyndhorn, didn’t just tell a story in the past. The present was brought in, and the characters of the present are as curious as the audience. Helen’s father wrote books about the other world, and his fans want more. This tie in, accompanied with Helen’s governess being interviewed, created such a fun way to tell this story. In the end we’re all just the stories people tell, so make sure you create a story worth telling.
