Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the latest issue of Gargoyles Quest from Greg Weisman and Dynamite Entertainment!
This is the first issue of Gargoyles I’ve reviewed, but I’ve been keeping up with the issues so far because I’m a BIG fan of Gargoyles. I grew up watching the cartoon series on tv when I was a kid. I even had some of the toys back then too. To see the series come back in a big way in the form of comics has been awesome. So with that said, let’s jump into the issue!
Gargoyles Quest #4 by Greg Weisman (writer), Pasquale Qualano (artist), Arianna Stefani (colorist), Jeff Eckleberry (letterer), Clayton Crain (cover) is an issue that feels like it’s straight out of the television series. High stakes, huge consequences and a little bit of magic all mix together for a truly memorable issue if you’re a fan of Gargoyles.
Greg Weisman pens an incredible story in this issue that has the feels of a classic Gargoyles story. Demona has collected some mystical objects that when combined, make her a very dangerous foe. It feels so on brand for her to go after these objects and try to gain control of the masses mystically rather than through sheer force of will.
If you’ve seen the cartoon Gargoyles, you know that typically her plans will work for a little bit of time but ultimately fail in the end. It’ll be interesting to see how this goes though, because it would be very interesting to see her succeed for a decent amount of time. It would be unexpected and shocking.
The other part of the story is split between the rest of Goliath’s clan getting ready for Thanksgiving, and Goliath hunting down Demona. It’s awesome to see the different viewpoints, because the show was so focused on a few characters during any given episode. So to see a wider perspective is a welcome sight to see as a long time fan of the series.
FINAL POINT: It’s going to be very interesting to see where things go from here. Because once you get to the end of the issue it’s so unclear where things are going to go. Will it spell doom for our heroes? Or will they grasp victory from the jaws of defeat? Only time will tell, but for now it’s a great issue that sets up a very interesting next few issues and they’re absolutely cannot miss.
SCORE: 9.0 out 10
