The Story:
Oh touche Jonathan, touche. Fans of Alien Covenant and Prometheus continue to have themselves a year as Hickman kicks the story off with a familiar, though altered, re-telling of David killing a planet full of creators. I will say I did not see this coming and yet I am enjoying the coming showdown that I feel is coming between creators, synthetics, aliens, and Avengers in what will rival a Wrestlemania event.
There were some surprises, such as Tony knowing about the coming attack and planning in a way only Tony Stark can do, whilst Bruce is the tragic hero once more. I am sucked in entirely with this issue as it has attached itself to me, much like a face-hugger.
Talk Art to Me:
Esad and Ive have certainly done their homework as well because they captured that familiar genocidal scene as though it was ripped from the film itself. Furthermore, the amount of detail and sadness conveyed on the faces of our heroes as we are not used to seeing them old and worn down tugs at our heartstrings immensely. A stand-out moment is seeing heroic Captain America in his glorious beard fighting next to Hulk as they take on a horde of Aliens to save humanity in a scene that, if it does not bring tears to your eyes, then you have no heart. I did not expect there to be so much emotion within this story.
Overall:
This team is crafting an absolute love letter to Ridley Scott, to Aliens, and to our beloved Avengers in such a beautiful way. Aliens Vs Avengers is a story that brought us here to watch Hulk smash Aliens and it has delivered on that and so much more. Fans, this ones for us.
